A Day in Copenhagen

Since Copenhagen (Denmark) is just a bridge away from Malmö, we decided we couldn’t miss a day trip to at least get a feel for it as so many people have told us what a vibrant city it is. We’d visited Copenhagen many years ago with our kids but neither of us have clear memories other than chasing the little ones around Tivoli Gardens. We were with niece Kayla and our buddies Kathy and Louis so running around an amusement park was not on the docket this time. We took a train across the bridge (or was it under the water through a tunnel???) to the city, and had a lovely day both exploring Nyhavn (New Harbour) – a 17th-century waterfront, canal and renovated entertainment district – and meeting friends of my brother who live down the main canal.

Nyhavn is chock full of restaurants, cafes, and shops that run along one of the many smaller canals that give the city it’s maritime charm. It’s definitely worth wandering through. But the highlight of our day trip was meeting with the couple who we were connected with by my brother. Both in the Danish film business, they are both incredibly interesting and were very gracious to invite us to their condo that sits at the end of one of the main canals. We took a local ferry to see them and the view from their building was breathtaking. The whole far end of this particular canal has of late been build up with architecturally incredible high-rises, and transit from that area to downtown is by ferry or bike path primarily…really lovely.

We ended our day at another really cool food market not unlike the one we’d found in Malmo – chock full of local gourmet foods to try and loads of people-watching.

Just having fun!
