I don’t want to sound too jaded already but the city is very, very busy with summer tourists and we decided that a great way to conteract a bit of claustrophobia is to get out of town for a weekly, day trip “adventure”. Last week was Montserrat this week was Tarragona. We knew going in that there was not going to be a ton of things to do and see there – we were specifically going in pursuit of a quieter beach scene that on the Barceloneta and a mellow afternoon of swimming and snoozing. And that’s what we got!
We are still figuring out the shortest distance and transportation between two points and today’s going “around our a** to get to our elbows” was a classic. Ultimately we needed to end up at the main train station, Sants, and we thought that we had the drill worked out to get there via Metro. Long story short, we got there after a handful of line transfers, then discovered that we could have hopped a train to our destination from Franca – the train station literally around the corner from our flat! The bright side of these Keystone Cop escapades is that we don’t generally make the same mistake twice, and by the time we have visitors we will be experts.
Tarragona’s beach was just what we hoped for – small, clean, and much less crowded than the Sitges and Barcelona counterparts. The water was as clear as any of us had ever seen, and the waves were very gentle – making for lovely hanging out and cooling off in the sea. Ruthie especially savored a quiet afternoon snoozing and tanning.
