- Shema = A staple of the Zambian diet; cornmeal cooked to a mashed potato consistency
- Kapenta = Also a staple here; very small “bait size” (and bite size) fish that are washed, dried, and then pan-fried – sometimes with onions and tomatoes
- Kentemba = a small roadside stand; these are found on many street corners = selling “Talk Time”, snacks, sodas, cigarettes (one at a time), etc
- Mazungo = a white person; not necessarily derogatory; subtext is “ex-pat and rich”
