The last week has given me a great appreciation for being able to "work virtually". Unlike those who have to actally show up in the flesh at their jobs – in retail, at banks, in any public-facing or manufacturing role really, working at Microsoft allows me to literally work in my pink fuzzy slippers when necessary.
Seattle area has been blasted this week with very chilly temps and more snow that we’ve seen in a while. Roads have gone to ice, schools have closed (our east coast bretheren think this is hysterical – THREAT of snow and the schools close…how WILL those kids ever get educated???), and those darned Seattle folk have no clue how to recover from a slip-slider on the interstate.
So, I’ve gotten up close and personal with Live Meeting, using our conference bridge daily (many times daily), and staying off the streets. And being quite productive, I might add. We may run low on Chamomile tea and the local Starbucks is seeing less of me this week, but money in my pocket and fewer liquid calories – not a bad fallout for staying cozy.
My kids made it safely home from schools in SoCal and Michigan – and that’s what matters. Here’s hoping we get out of here later in the week for some sun in California. And amazing, I can work virtually from there as well. When I’m not ACTUALLY "OOF"….
Stay safe, stay warm, and a happy and healthy new year to you all…
Esther
